and HistoryLast week i and my frnd Santhosh were discussing about Amarar Kalki's "Ponniyin Selvan"...he was of the opinion that it doesn't warrant the hype of a great epic associated with it...though i didn't fully agree with it, i too think that sometimes we give so much hype to certain things which when faced with reality fails short of its expectation..since the topic is something different i will stop digressing...though Ponniyin selvan fell short of the hype the work of Amarar Kalki should be very much appreciated, his research into the topic is very vast and expansive..he had recreated the entire era and had given a very realistic picture of that period in history, which even highly experienced archealogical experts couldn't project!!!!

there are certain writers in the modern times who have this gift of recreating history and enthralling readers with their true account of a particular time/place, for once Fredrick Forsyth's "ICON" was one good read where the author takes you into the heart of Moscow and his "THE DAY OF THE JACKAL" is too good a read.. another stalwart in this area is Ayn Rand..her work "WE THE PEOPLE" gives a true state of Russia during the period of revolution and birth of Communist movement..her account of the travails faced by the Aristocratic families through the eyes of a young and ambitious upper class girl who wants to make it big in Communist Russia is potrayed in a very realistic way..
though these are all works of fiction, the pains the author takes to recreate history and project it in a very realistic way is very much commendable.......Srivatsan with all the NOISE!!i cant understand y ppl make so much ado abt nothing inorder to earn their share of fame and fortune. i cant find a single good blog
english language except for the month "May"....
noticing people even so-called big bulls replacing can for may is disgusting..y
dont ppl understand the difference between the two...one involves one's
usage of words into their muddy heads

trumpets were blowing, people were marching through the streets, sweets were distributed, tricolor was hoisted high its the time to enjoy..its our independence day..

August 15 2004, 0.00hrs..

everyone is in deep sleep, some snoring others tossing around,

August 15 2004, 8.00 hrs..

i was going to get vegetable s for my mom ( i dont feel helping in household chores is a prestige issue for guys) when a small kid living in the flat opposite my house came running to me and gave me a tricolor to pin it on my shirt as he had done so..i took it but refused to pin it, well the kid had to go disappointed....one of the not so young not so old (around 35yrs) person who was watching this scene came to me and asked tht question that enraged me to such an extent it made me loose my cool on the middle of the road..this is wat he asked " y did u refuse to wear the flag ? r u not patriotic?" the next thing he said was even more ridiculous " look at us we r wearing the flag cos we are patriotic" (this is a rough translation of wat the man said and meant).. i was so enraged i couldnt think properly on the road..but the moment i took control i started rolling with laughter at the exhibition of ignorance frm tht person ( he is working as a Software engineer who has recently returned frm USof A)..
wat does it mean to be patriotic?? is it just pinning the tricolor on independence day?? how many Indian know the time duration for our National Anthem? how many of us know who wrote Vande Mataram?? well we dont try to find out anything abt our country but just celebrate independence day as any other festival like Diwali or sankaranti..this is the most ignominous thing to do to our nation...in my view this amounts to hypocrisy and not patriotism cos we pin the tricolor today and fly off the next day to US of A or UK or anyother damn country in the atlas rather than stay here and fight ( this is not to point finger at any one..this is a personal opinion)..
in my view patriotism is to do with the kind of attitude ppl show towards their country, towards their ppl and so on and so forth and remaining things are either hyprocrisy or total bullshit.

wow i think i'll put it to rest.. cos i would have stirred quite a lot of hornet's nest..i just wanted ppl to know the difference between the two...

P.S: hope this is not read by any politician (or wannabe politicos)..even then I say GO TO HELL!!!!!!
Chain..well until the last week i used to enjoy my life like there's no tomorrow..but now i have landed in something that is worse than i could ever imagine ..to cut long story short i have been thrust with a 9-5 job..i basically dont like to stretch even my small finger for anything and now i'm here stretching all my 20 fingers....i've been hit by the 9-5 bug and to compound it all the people i work for have put a dog leash around my neck(i'm talkin abt my id card)..i had ridiculed most of my frnds who are working in leading software companies abt the way they have their icard around their neck but never in my life thought tht one day
i would be in tht position..i've been made to eat my words and eat i did....guys it really is bad on my part to ridicule u, now i know how a dog feels if its put on leash, i've become a member of SPCA and especially towards dogs..and to add to my woes everybody here is breathing down my neck saying "Do this Do that" and i'm not allowed even a single minute rest, they r not even considering the fact tht i'm a fresher and its just a week since i joined...well its useless to wait for Microsoft or Linux to do something about this bug, i think i have to do somethin abt it myself (with some help frm my frnds!!!!)..[i dont like to work for someone.i want to be my own master]
Express..i was sleeping in my berth while at vijayawada somebody woke me up and requested me to shift berths as there was a girl with him and she couldnt climb up ( that idiot shifted me to the upper berth).. as kind-hearted as i was i immediately obliged.. the girl thanked me for that and as was my custom i acknowledged by saying "Mention Not" and then came the funnniest part!! she looked at me preplexed and asked me to repeat what i said..i think she couldnt get what i said or she was not used to mention nots!!!! this caught me offgaurd and made me sit up and think in the middle of the night as to the correct reply for a "Thank U".. i spinned my grey cells or what was left of it after a tedious week after project to research a solution (best possible) for it....well in my research i found that different people prefer different acknowledgments for that word...
these are some examples :
well a Briton of High Class will say "Its a pleasure" when he is confounded by this word that too by a beautiful Lady.and any ordinary Briton would say "Mention Not" for a reply and that
was what we had been drilled to say in our primary..our English Teachers Mrs.Kamakshi and Mrs.Sulochana had drilled us like anything to say "mention Not" whenever somebody said Thank Q.. and we were supposed to practice saying it among ourselves while we borrow something or my friends to do some favour for me..
well coming to the next country the Americans usual word of ack.. would be "u r welcome" or "anytime"...now coming to the desi version..we indians are habituated to saying "No Problems" or to put it in the words of today's youth "No Probs"!!!!. well
as far as my knowledge goes No probs or No problem for that matter is said whenever some say "Sorry"...but only in India u find the same reply for two different queries and that too when the queries are poles apart..well i just managed to say NO PROBS to that girl for which she presented me with a very beautiful smile of hers in the middle of the night..but i'm still confused as to what should be said ??? and now i have this big concern about where the language is going in this cul-de-sac of hip and hop world of today..."QUO VADIS ENGLISH"....well is this concern a futile one in a land where there is still some alienation towards this foreign language???

Why Do People Write??" everybody has his own justifications...my friend said he wanted to improve his writing abilities so i write...i justify myself by saying that I like to think and writing makes me think!!!!(some may feel it as absurd...for them an old tamil adage is applicable).. i always try to keep my mind churning out something(good)..i dont like keeping my mind idle and the best way to keep it working is making it think something to
write...until last week i had lots of ideas to write upon but suddenly all those ideas have vanished into thin air.....i dunno whether there is dearth of ideas to write upon or the unilateral
thinking...whatever it may be hope it doesnt last long so that i dont long much.......

My father used to relive those nostalgic moments in his college and used to say that it was a great feeling to be studying in college in those days (cos many people stop studying after completing their PUC (XII std.)). Wat has replaced this awe inspiring B.A or the B.Sc degree these days.B.E of course (no points for correct guessing). Being an Engineer myself I shouldn’t have attempted this post but I felt intrigued today from my father’s nostalgic moments as to what has led to the downfall (erosion) of these degrees? Why do we students tend to look down upon these courses and leave it to the lesser mortals who have had a casual attitude towards studies or are the creative spark in our students died down? Or is it the proliferation of tech jobs that has dimmed the creativity of guys?
My friends in college used to attend different cultural events and bag prizes in quiz and other academic oriented competitions, but when it comes to art forms they most of the time stood second to the guys from ARTS colleges (Take that for creativity). I think the cause of this looking down upon scenario may be the way in which the tech comp are leading our generation (With a carrot at the end of the stick, but where does the stick end nobody knows). Who is to blame for this attitude of the students?? Parents?? Who instill into their children right from their childhood that they have to be an engineer or a doctor when they grow up and nothing else , or the schools??? Which wants to have Atleast 3 state ranks in the board exams and for this jails its students inside the house with nothing but books right from standard VI, or the students themselves who after completing their X shake their heads to their parent’s choices and suppress their interests.
Well definitely this has to change, when and by whom I leave to the wise people. Last but not the least being an engineer I’ve had constant doubts regarding what might the future hold for these graduates when my future itself looks bleak??
Lets not make the Bachelor Of Arts extinct like the dinosaur!!!

I’m a solitary reaper ( an euphemistic term for telling everyone that I’m a loner)..being a loner has its own perks. U have the undivided attention of both ur parents and well u get everything u wish for..but it has its own downfall too. I’m enjoying the status of monopoly in my household(like Microsoft) …I’ve had moments when I enjoyed this monopolistic status but the main problem is by being monopolistic I fail to realize the brand loyalty I enjoy (it needs competition to project the true worth of any organisation)…coming to the better part of the story, I used to envy (when I was a immature) my friends who had either a sister or brother, the childhood sibling rivalry, the doting and wat not..i’ve lived a vicarious life of my own (I’m a kind of Schizophrenic paranoid) with an elder sister who dotes on me, fights with me and buys me all sorts of things that I wish for..well I take it granted that all the lone wolves in the world would have lived such vicarious lives themselves at some point or other…coming to the most IRONICAL THING “ ALL MY FRIENDS HAVE EITHER A BROTHER OR A SISTER” ..what a world I live in???????? I took this count while I was thinking of a better topic to write..and if u ask my friends who have been very close to me they would give an opinion quite contrasting to whatever I’ve written here and falsify my proclamation as an OUTSIDER/SOLITARY REAPER…
